Search Engine Optimisation: Drive traffic to your website from natural search results
Most businesses strive for a constant flow of targeted leads to their website. Search Engine Optimisation or SEO, when carried out efficiently and intelligently can drive targeted users to your website from search engines results. It is a combination of on-page and off-page Search Engine Optimisation techniques that contribute to an effective SEO strategy.
On-page techniques include good website design designed to Web Standards, (including semantic code, good use of relevant meta and tags), and of course, well written engaging content with selected and targeted keywords, (including semantic code, good use of relevant meta and tags), and of course, well written engaging content with selected and targeted keywords.
Off-page Search Engine Optimisation includes the careful use of backlinks, article and news submission, blog & RSS feeds and active internet participation.
A well designed and structured website is search engine friendly
Whilst lots of effort can be placed in gaining hundreds of relevant and quality backlinks, your website, if designed intelligently to begin with, will be a great deal more attractive to search engines. Adhering to 'Web Standards' are an excellent way of making sure that the design of your website is built with search engines in mind.
Wasted effort
Even if you spend time and money on driving lots of traffic to the site, and when people arrive it has poor navigation, no call to actions and no real purpose, your conversion rate will inevitably be low and fruitless. Structure, design, anchor-text in links, meta information and tags, all make a difference - most of this is down to your web design company!
What search engines don't like:
Search engines such as Google (80% of current search market) send out spider programs to index the web. The job is to make sure that when these spiders arrive at your site, they can grab what information they need, quickly and are encouraged to dig further into your website to pick up the deeper lying content. Barriers to search engines are things such as bloated code, Flash (search engines struggle to index the content of Flash), old table-based designs, and websites built with frames. These barriers make it difficult for the spiders to retrieve information they need (good old content!).
When you search the web, you're not searching the live web! It's a search engine's view of the web stored in their vast array of computers and servers - So it makes sense to be nice to the spiders!
Images as links!
Did you know that search engines cannot follow links that are images? So when your nice looking image-based navigation is presented to a search spider, they cannot see behind the links, and if you are relying on one single global navigation providing links around your site (bad from a usability perspective!), search engine spiders can go no further.
What can Redhead Media do?
SEO Strategy
We can help you identify relevant targeted keywords that are actually being searched for (using clever software and some investigation) rather than asking your friends or colleagues to come up with a list. What you think is being search for and what is actually being searched for, are usually two different things. We then build these words/phrases into your site both from a design and content perspective achieving just the right balance. Internal linking across your website is reviewed as this also encourages the spread of trust around your site from pages that already rank well or have a high PageRank (The PageRank of a website in Google is a trust indicator set by Google and positively affects your position in search engines. Most good websites have a PageRank of 3 or 4 - the BBC homepage has a Pagerank of 9/10!)
Once on-page factors are complete and your landing pages have great structured content with targeted keywords, we can move to off-page search engine optimisation and go to the internet to gather backlinks, encourage linking (good content is key), submit articles and generally raise the profile of the page on the internet. Over a period of time (6-9months +) SEO efforts bring targeted traffic to your well designed and optimised website page that encourages customer conversion through excellent marketing messages and well placed call to actions.
Ongoing content strategy and blogs
Content is an integral part of any website not just for your customers but search engines too. Generally speaking, what is good for the users of your website, is good for search engines. Building content around your services that contains keywords and phrases can be time-consuming but will lead to more opportunity for search engines to index your content and provide it to their users (the searchers!). A great way of achieving this is through your company blog. Many people think of blogs as online diaries, but when used intelligently, they can increase traffic, leads, customer satisfaction and help you become known as a leader in your field! Your blog content can be very powerful for your search engine strategy given that if your blog posts are well written with an interesting angle, they can distributed and linked to across the web - gaining more trust for your site and increasing your profile with search engines.
