@Media 2008: an amazing 2 days

Wow, what a conference, two extremely busy days packed full of industry leading comment and innovative insight for web design and development. ‘@media 2008′ in my eyes was a complete success, and a very well received event - I’m already looking forward to next year!

In-depth and well delivered sessions from experts such as Jeffrey Veen (recently of Google and responsible for the re-design of Analytics), Dan Rubin (a cutting-edge and well respected designer), John Resig (creator of JQuery javascript library), Bronwyn Jones (a lead writer at Apple.com), Jonathan Snook (Author and web designer/developer), Indi Young (User Experience consultant and author) and many, many more.

The topics were wide and varied including areas such as:

  • Web Standards, best practices and what this means for businesses
  • Designing and developing with a focus on user and aesthetics
  • Design as means of creating flow and emphasis
  • Enhancing and enriching the user experience
  • Accessibility concerns and developments
  • APIs, Mashups and the future
  • Effective representation of data for the user…..and more

@media 2008 panel - day oneWorkshops and examples were presented in the forms of case studies from the BBC and the Guardian communicating best practice and giving insight to how these companies approached various problems and issues. In particular the BBC talked about the re-design of their homepage and the problems surrounding this.

More important are the concepts and thought evoking debate/discussion that brought forward the issues that internet users face, and the vital benefits for businesses and their online strategies. It is our goal and focus over the coming weeks to translate these topics into powerful business benefits, communicated here on the Redhead Blog and in our newsletter ‘the red rag’ (sign up for this newsletter here).

On top of all this Redhead Media made lots of new friends and contacts from all around the world! It was great meeting everyone at @media 2008 and we look forward to seeing you all again next year!
